Partnership with Catholic Charities and San Diego Food Bank
As of February 2020, Saint Brigid Parish will operate a food distribution site on the 4th Friday of each month, in partnership with Catholic Charities, a recognized food distribution partner with San Diego Food Bank . The SD Food Bank receives commodities from the USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP). St. B's is one of the first parishes in the diocese to partner with Catholic Charities, to help improve the health of low-income families living in our community, increasing their food security while allowing them to live with dignity. Each month with the help of numerous volunteers, qualifying families and individuals will receive food packages containing a variety of canned food, dry grains, proteins (such as meat, canned or frozen), and other nutritious items.
When will the food be distributed?
Recurring 4th Fridays of the month from 9:30 - 11:30 am in the north parking lot:
- Patrons may line up earlier on Cass Street sidewalk, beginning at Cass Street driveway
- Personal carts or wagons highly recommended to transport your frozen and canned goods; at a minimum bring your own shopping bags
- Volunteers are not available to carry items off-site for patrons
Other distribution sites can be found by calling 2-1-1 or the San Diego Food Bank at 1.866.350.3663.
How can I help?
Each month we are looking for 25+ helpers in various roles such as set up team, line monitor, check-in table attendant, shopping assistants, stock or surplus clerks, box recyclers, break down team or driver.
Volunteer pre-registration through Catholic Charities is requested for our anticipatory planning; drop-in volunteers will be welcomed.
We also need your prayers, to bless this work of charity, for our neighbors, and for the grace of generosity of ourselves.
