Anointing of the Sick

a sacrament of healing

We are here for you or your loved one.

What is the reason for this sacrament?

Anointing of the sick is a beautiful sacrament of healing administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness, especially near the time of death. It is most likely one of the last sacraments one will receive.

Who  can receive the sacrament?

Celebration of this sacrament is no longer reserved only for those who are dying. This changed with the Second Vatican Council in the early 1960's. At that time the sacrament was expanded for the benefit of anyone suffering from a serious physical or mental illness. Celebration of the sacrament is certainly appropriate before or after a surgical procedure, seeking the Lord's power to be at work in the skills of doctors and nurses. Someone who is seriously ill can also receive the sacrament more than once.
